You crept in like a villain in the twilight of the dark night
And stole away a glory at birth
You came in your fury, snares and vices
Sworn to wipe away the lines of cultural rites
I can hear the wailing of the children running off the islands
Seeking and searching for papa’s open arms
The comforting embrace of momma’s warmth
Youth withered
Foetus in the womb not spared your
ferocious swings-burning rage
You spread wide your web deadly over the Soudan soil
But the African heritage triumph.
You came on ruthlessly like the ravaging beast across the coastline
Devouring in the shadows of night
under the moonlight
Trailing your prey with deceitful strides
A Crown. A Throne. A Kingdom.
To kill, to ruin and to destroy
Laughter, joy and love of the family’s thread
Listen to the tears of the heartbroken maiden
-aching for her beloved
The prince wandered alone the country side dejected
-with head bowed, hands folded in despair
The heart heavy – burdened with load of sighs and sighing
Your victims are more than the battles slain
Bloodshed and wasted off the alleys
But there’s victory for Africa
With healing balm curbing your injuries and bruises
Imbedded in the rays of the Sun
You are the villain’s footprint –
That encroaches in the cold of night and warmth of day
Like the serpent-.you poured out your venom
On the black race of the Soudan
Like the sea pirate- you banged in uninvited
Unwavering in your range
Enrobed in our untainted garment of Royalty
With the villain’s vigor
You marches on menacingly
Leaving the family’s cord tattered and battered
You erode the street of green with your virus
You roared like the ravaging beast
Roaming across the coastline of the Niger-
More dreadful than
A Dracula. A dragon. A vampire- a blood sucking demon
With your subtlety you invades our haven
You are an unwelcomed visitor
A stranger forbidden a permanent stool at the city gate-
No matter the warmth of embrace
Africa is weary of your tunes and beats
For there’s no marriage between the pebbles and the gold dust!
The sound of the trumpet is beckoning
all to the grand battle of the evening tide
To witness the death and burial of the darts of death!
You came on with your charm enchanting aroma
Compelling irresistibly to forbear
The drum is beating
The piper piping
And the masquerade dancing
Summoning all to the battle at the city center
O’ ravaging beast!
How can you prevail over the wailing of the bleeding child?
The anger of a scorned woman out on revenge
The intrigues of the devastated princehood
And the down trodden peasant’s hunger
All united in yearnings, cravings and purpose
You can never triumph over the great cycle of Africa’s Oneness
O’ ravaging beast- in Africa!
